Economics of International Trade
The course is
designed for the student to learn about how economic factors influence a
domestic economy. These factors (trade in goods, trade in services and
cross-border movement of labor and capital) are the economic drivers of
globalization. The course emphasizes why nations trade (or restrict trade),
primarily from a microeconomic perspective, by applying the lessons from the
theory on behavior of consumers, producers, marketers and the government. The
course has relevance for understanding how trade relates to the economy,
contributes to economic growth, and development. Using the
theoretical framework that is developed, it is
possible to consider strategies by consumers, firms, political lobbyists and
governments achieving objectives related to their respective economic
interests.
ECN320.
Open Market Macroeconomics
This course is the study of
macroeconomics from an international perspective, emphasizing the relationship
of external imbalances (from international transactions) to the domestic
macroeconomic imbalances of a country. Emphasis is given
to understanding the principle macroeconomic relationships: current and capital
account, trade and exchange rates, capital flows and exchange rates, and
changes in output from changes in key variables (price, inflation rates,
interest rates, wages, employment, etc.). Using the
theoretical framework that is developed, it is
possible to consider practical considerations such as Brexit, economic
integration, and monetary union.
